Judge Antero Luis of the Court of Appeal of Lisbon requested a reason to analyze one of José Sócrates’ appeals in the Marquis case, and the Supreme Court accepted the request.
In a statement he filed with STJ, the judge recalled that it was the former prime minister, accused of six crimes (money laundering and forgery) of the 31 of which he was charged, who appointed him director general of the Information Service. and Security (SIS) and Secretary General of the Internal Security System.
And that although they did not have “any friendly relations”, they were deprived of “social events”, which, he stressed, could cause “suspicion and distrust” in relation to their “impartiality”.
