The trial of 17 defendants accused of cheating and defrauding luxury car dealers in Viseu was postponed this Wednesday due to a lack of funds to bring the detainees to court. The session is scheduled for this Friday.
The crime dates back to 2019. The suspects pretended to be doctors and businessmen so that the luxury car dealers would think they were in a good financial position. When they were asked for proof of payment, the scammers sent a fake document. Since the meetings took place at the end of the day, it was not possible to confirm the authenticity of the documents.
Once they received the cars, they registered them in the name of third parties and put them up for sale on the Spanish market at a much lower price.
The defendants are now charged with fraud, forgery and possession of prohibited weapons.
