Two civil servants from the Torres Novas chamber, suspected of corruption, removed from office

Two employees of the Câmara de Torres Novas (Santarém), suspected of corruption and taking undue advantage, were suspended from their functions in the urban planning services of the municipality in accordance with the enforcement measures applied after the first judicial questioning.

In a statement released this Thursday, the district attorney of Santarena says that two employees, an architect and works supervisor, and a third detainee, a designer who is not associated with the municipality, are also prohibited from contacting each other and with other persons. procedural actors.

On March 15, the Judicial Police announced the arrest the day before of three people after carrying out searches at the town planning office of the Torres Novas City Council based on an anonymous complaint received in 2021.

Heard by the Criminal Judge of Santarém, the suspension of the functions “in the field of urban planning and the Single Cabinet for the retraining of cities” of two officials of the municipality of Torreja was determined.

“There is strong evidence that the two defendants, an architect and a building inspector, both holding positions in the municipality of Torres Novas, facilitated, through financial compensation, requests or inspections of city operations by a company that supervised the works and architectural projects that the third defendant is responsible for,” – says the certificate of the prosecutor’s office (MP).

According to the deputy, we will talk about the actions taken in the period from September 2018 to November 2022.

The investigation continues in the 2nd Division of Tomar of the Department of Investigations and Criminal Affairs of Santarém, with the MP assisted by the Department of Criminal Investigations of Leiria of the Judicial Police.
