“It is with deep sadness that I learned of the deadly attack that took place today in Lisbon, a shocking act that deserves deep condemnation. I offer my condolences to the families and friends of the victims,” Rui Rocha said in a message posted on Twitter.
Two people died Tuesday morning at the Ismaili Center in Lisbon in a stabbing attack and a suspect was arrested, a police source told Lusa.
Several people were also injured in the incident, two of whom are in serious condition, according to a source from the National Institute of Emergency Medical Services (INEM).
According to a PSP official, a suspect was arrested after the attack, who also stated that the situation was now under control.
The Prime Minister also expressed regret over the two deaths in the attack on the Ismaili Center in Lisbon and considered it premature to predict the motives of “this criminal act.”
Speaking to reporters a few minutes before speaking at the PS Parliamentary Days in Tomar, Santarém district, António Costa expressed his solidarity and condolences to the Ismaili community, the families of the victims.
“I want to record the PSP’s operative intervention that allowed the arrest of the suspect, who is currently in the Santa Maria Hospital in Lisbon receiving medical attention. Obviously, it is premature to give any interpretation about the motives of this criminal. Act. The authorities are conducting the necessary investigations,” the Prime Minister stressed.
