The PSD questioned the government this Monday about the reasons why support for the family support package will be distributed exclusively by bank transfer, noting the “risk of non-coverage” by beneficiaries without a bank account.
“On what basis is the support for a set of family support measures in the context of an increase in the living wage carried out exclusively by bank transfer, unlike other types of support that, in the absence of a bank account, the payment of maintenance is carried out by mail?” the Social Democratic deputies asked.
In a question submitted to Parliament by the Minister of Labour, Solidarity and Social Protection, Ana Méndez Godinho, PSD MPs noted that the government “does not condone this exceptional option of paying these social benefits.”
“According to the statements of the Minister of Labor and Social Security in the media, the payment of this emergency assistance is made exclusively by bank transfer, through Direct Social Insurance, automatically, even calling on taxpayers to update their bank details in Direct Social Insurance. , namely IBAN,” the party noted.
The Social Democrats asked Minister Ana Méndez Godinho what are the “alternative means that the government has provided so that all recipients of this support who do not indicate or update their IBAN can effectively receive and at the stipulated time.”
PSD recalled that the cost-of-living emergency support announced in October 2022 included other options as a means of payment, such as postal mail, in addition to bank transfer.
“(…) In October last year, the Social Security Service made a payment of emergency assistance for the increase in the cost of living (family first measure”) preferably by bank transfer for all beneficiaries with a registered IBAN and sent for the rest by postal order, “says in the party announcement.
In the same question, the PSD stressed that this support, under the government’s announced package to support families in the face of rising costs of living, will amount to 580 million euros, covering about 1.7 million families, and payments will begin this month.
