The Blue Line of the Lisbon Metro is suspended from today until Monday.

The blue line of the Metropolitano de Lisboa will be interrupted from this Friday to Monday due to the installation of a new signaling and train control system with reinforcement of Carris routes.

The carrier’s statement explains that traffic on this line between Santa Apolonia and Reboleira (Amadora) will resume at 6:30 am on Tuesday, April 11.

Between 15:00 and 23:00 this Friday Metro de Lisboa will provide “come and go” buses between Campo Grande and Estadio da Luz duly identified, in connection with the football match between Sport Lisboa and Benfica and Porto Football Club.

These vehicles will run between Campo Grande (near the NOS building) and Estrada da Luz (next to the 2nd ring viaduct), valid passes will be accepted on the metro network.

The Blue Line interruption is due to a number of planned activities to install a new train signaling and control system called Communication Based Train Control (CBTC).

During this period, the company recommends using alternative ground transportation, and the Carris bus station is stepping up service on routes 726, 746, 759 and 767.

The following routes will be strengthened in both directions: Sapadores – Pontinha (center) on route 726; Marquis de Pombal – Damaya station on route 746; Restauradores – Oriente station on 759; and Reboleira (metro) – Campo Mártires da Pátria on 767.

According to Carris’ note, there are other routes that can serve as an alternative, namely 701, 716, 728, 729, 732, 735, 744, 754, 768, 778, 55B, 58B, 781, 782 and 794.

According to Metropolitano, CP – Comboios de Portugal service may also be available via the Sintra and Cintura lines, on connections between Sintra and Rossio and between Sintra and Oriente respectively.

With the Fertagus train, customers wishing to reach Lisbon from the south bank of the Tagus can use the Entrecampos and Roma-Areeiro stations to reach other parts of the city on the yellow and green lines of the Lisbon Metro.

Carris Metropolitana also has connections that connect to some CP stations on the Sintra and Cascais lines connecting to other parts of the city.

The new CBTC signaling system is part of the Metropolitano de Lisboa modernization project and will be extended to the yellow and green lines in order to “enable better regulation of traffic and therefore improve the offer and quality of services provided to the customer. “.

The modernization project includes a €114.5 million investment in signaling the three lines and includes the acquisition of 14 new three-seat units (41 wagons) and the adaptation of 70 three-seat units to the new CBTC system.
