Tesla has cut prices in the US, with the biggest discounts being on its most expensive models, the Model S and Model X. This is the brand’s third price cut in the US market this year.
Electric car maker CEO Elon Musk has indicated that the main goal is to increase sales, even if it sacrifices profits.
The Model S is now $84,990 (€77,902 at current exchange rates) in base price, down $5,000 from last month. The Model X has a starting price of $94,990 (€87,068), also $5,000 less than in March.
Tesla has been one of the car manufacturers most frequently resorting to price cuts to cushion falling demand in the context of inflation and rising interest rates.
The manufacturer delivered 422,875 vehicles worldwide in the first quarter, but the S and X models totaled just 10,695 units.
In the case of the Model 3, the price reduction was only $1,000, bringing the base price to $41,990 (€38,488), while the Model Y SUV, now the brand’s most popular model, was reduced to $2,000. , for $49,900 (€45,739).
In Portugal, as in other markets, Tesla cut prices once this year. The decline appeared in January and affected the Model 3 and Model Y, which account for almost all sales in Portugal, which rose sharply in the first three months of the year, with a decrease of about 10 thousand euros per year. Model 3 with the cheapest version (rear-wheel drive) has a base price of 44,990 euros, while Model Y has approximately four thousand euros, and the cheapest version of the Tesla SUV costs 46,990 euros.
