The Communist Party of Portugal (PCP) announced this Saturday that Jeronimo de Souza will step down from the leadership of the party after 18 years as general secretary. The party proposed Paulo Raimundo as its new leader.
As can be read on the Communist Party’s Facebook page: “Jeronimo de Souza, general secretary of the PCP, seeking his own assessment, reflecting on the state of his health and the requirements corresponding to his duties, raised the issue of his replacement. in the functions it performs, while remaining a member of the Central Committee of the PKP.”
Paulo Raimundo was elected at the last Congress to the Political Commission and the Secretariat during the last term of Carlos Carvalhas and has now returned to the Political Commission.
