The head of state vowed this Thursday to warn if one day he changes his stance on the issue of a political alternative and a break in the legislature, faced with a statement from the SDP chairman that he is ready to be the government.
“When I have to express a different position of the president on this issue, I will do it,” Marcelo Rebelo de Souza told reporters at the Champalimo Foundation in Lisbon, which he visited with Latvian President Egils Levits.
“There are many opinions. The position of the president, who should decide, is the president,” he added, continuing the words of Luis Montenegro.
On Monday in Mursa, Vila Real district, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa once again ruled out the dissolution scenario, citing the current situation as well as the lack of a political alternative, believing that “at the moment there is no obvious alternative.”
Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa urged the opposition to transform the sum of the polls into “a reality strong enough that the Portuguese can say: in the future we have this alternative.”
“The SDP assures the country, the Portuguese and also the President of the Republic that this is an alternative government to the PS and that we are ready to take on all the consequences of the alternative when it suits,” said SDP President Luis. Montenegro, on Wednesday Monday, in Lisbon, at the response of the head of state.
Faced with these words today, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa avoided commenting on them: “I said about this, about the topic that you know what it is, which I don’t even mention, I said what I should have said on Monday, and like this. So. if I ever have something to say about this and when … “.
The media asked the president of the republic if he would speak on this topic on Tuesday, the day when, according to various sources, he will receive the president of the PSD.
“No no no. When I have to say a different position of the president on this matter, I will do it,” he replied.
