Sudanese paramilitary groups accuse the army of attacking bases in Khartoum

This Saturday in Khartoum, Sudan’s capital, several shots were fired during a firefight between the Sudanese army and the militant group “Rapid Support Forces” (RSF), reports Reuters. The paramilitary group Rapid Support Forces (RSF) accused the Sudanese army this Saturday of attacking it with heavy weapons at one of its bases after weeks of tension between the two units, causing a major escalation in the country.

Shots were fired near the headquarters of the Sudanese army and the Ministry of Defense in the center of Khartoum. Soldiers and armed equipment on the streets of the country’s capital.

“The Rapid Support Forces were taken by surprise this morning, Saturday, April 15, by a large military force that infiltrated the force headquarters in the Soba camp in Khartoum,” the group said in a statement. The group said the army laid siege to “the forces present in order to attack them with all kinds of heavy and light weapons,” according to a statement quoted by Spanish news agency EFE.

It follows several days of tension between the Sudanese army and the RSF after the military believed the movements made by members of the paramilitary group on Thursday were inconsistent with the country’s security forces and were illegal.
