Police release footage of man shot dead after he knocked on the door of the wrong house

Three policemen shot and killed a man during an incident in Farmington, New Mexico, USA. Agents responded to a domestic violence distress call, but the victim’s address was wrong. Robert Dotson, 52, died on April 5. Now, the Farmington Police Department has decided to release surveillance footage of police officers.

The alarm was announced at 23:30. In a video released on Friday, an officer is seen knocking on the door three times at the wrong address and announcing that it is the police. The agent who knocked on the door and another discuss the address: “Isn’t it 5308? That’s what it says, right?” “No, you said 5305, didn’t you?” another answers. They ask the switch to confirm the address. “5308”, they say.

In accordance with NBC news, apt.As the door to the house opens, the agents yell “hands up” and immediately shoot Dotson. Part of the video released by police shows the owner allegedly raising a gun.

“My God!” shouts Dotson’s wife. The state police said they opened fire on the officers before realizing they were police officers. No harm done. In the footage, an officer can be heard saying that the woman took Dotson’s gun and pointed it at them.

The couple’s children were upstairs.

“Once again, we want to express our condolences to the Dotson family, and as your chief of police, I want to express how sorry I am that this tragedy occurred,” the police chief said. Steve Hebbe this Friday night, according to NBC News. Hebbe said the videos were released partly in the interest of being transparent about what happened. According to the police, the reason why the agents went to the wrong address is being investigated.

The New Mexico State Police are investigating the case.
