The government is monitoring the situation with violence in Sudan, but so far it has no information about the Portuguese injured in the clashes that broke out this Saturday morning between the army and the Forças de Apoyo Fácil paramilitary group.
“Ministry of Foreign Affairs [MNE] is monitoring the situation with the Portuguese Embassy in Cairo, which has consular jurisdiction in Sudan. So far, there is no news about the sick Portuguese, ”the guardianship of Luce said in a brief response.
“The MNE will continue to monitor the situation,” he added.
The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) group said on Saturday it would not lay down its arms until the army surrenders, while the military described the Sudanese paramilitary unit as a “rebel militia.”
Chaos caused by clashes mainly in Khartoum and other cities has resulted in at least three civilian deaths and dozens of injuries, according to the Sudanese Doctors’ Union.
The Sudanese Air Force began bombing the paramilitary group’s positions this Saturday in an attempt to repel “aggression” after the RSF accused the Sudanese army of attacking one of its headquarters.
The RSF indicated that they had taken control of the presidential palace as well as Khartoum International Airport, the largest in Sudan, a claim denied by the military.
The violence that took place in Sudan was widely condemned, in particular by the United Nations, the European Union, the United States, Russia and the Arab League, which called for an immediate cessation of hostilities.
These clashes came two days after the army warned of a “dangerous situation” in the country that could lead to armed conflict after the RSF mobilized in the Sudanese capital and other cities without the consent or coordination of the armed forces.
This mobilization comes during negotiations to reach a final political agreement that will end the 2021 coup and lead Sudan to a democratic transition, a pact that has been delayed twice this month precisely because of tensions and rivalry between the army and the RSF. .
