This Wednesday, a man died in a work accident in Funchal Ecological Park, Madeira, according to the Funchal Council, indicating that the victim belonged to a company hired by the municipality to carry out the cleanup and reforestation work.
In a statement, the Chamber “deeply regrets the death of an employee of Indian nationality from PERENE, SA in an industrial accident that occurred this Wednesday in the Ecological Park of Funchal.”
The municipality refers to the fact that the company in question was awarded a contract for the clearing of wild brush and subsequent reforestation with local and hardwoods, representing an investment of 208,000 euros financed by European funds.
“The Funchal City Council expresses its most sincere condolences to the family of the deceased employee,” the note reads.
A source from the Madeira Volunteer Firefighters who contacted Lusa only confirmed the death, without providing further details.
