The former Assistant Minister of Infrastructure said that Joao Galamba had an “angry reaction” when faced with the opportunity to release the recordings of the TAP preparatory meeting that took place in January. Federico Pinheiro, removed from office for behavior inconsistent with ministerial duties, broke his silence on the controversy this Friday.
Frederico Pinheiro was targeted in an exchange of information released to the media on Thursday about the controversy at TAP.
In a statement to which morning Post had access, Galamba’s former deputy mentions that a preparatory meeting was held on January 16 this year, attended by Infrastructure Minister João Galamba, former CEO of TAP, Christine Urmier-Widener, Frederico Pineiro, deputy minister, and Manuela Simões, director of TAP’s legal department .
“The Minister of Infrastructure then said that he did not see any problem that the meeting had taken place (…) The meeting aimed to formulate with TAP the management of information to be carried out by the CEO in the scheduled parliamentary hearings. this week, January 18,” says Federico Pineiro.
The former Assistant Minister of Infrastructure indicates that he took notes of the meeting on a computer. It states that “The questions to be asked by the GPPS were formulated and the responses and communication strategy of the TAP CEO were mentioned.”
“It was indicated that if requested by a parliamentary committee of inquiry, the records would not be handed over as they were an unofficial document,” he says.
This Monday, April 24, an inquiry was made to Federico Pinheiro due to the lack of minutes of the meetings. The politician explained that he did have records of that day.
On Tuesday, the former aide spoke to the minister by phone and said they would have to reconsider their decision not to disclose the existence of the notes. “Joao Galamba had an angry reaction,” he says.
On the same night, Frederico Pinheiro sent the notes from the January meeting and also sent a proposal to change the answer to be sent to the Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPI). The next day, he received word that he had been fired.
