Ten municipalities in Faro and two in Santarem are at very high fire risk.

According to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), ten municipalities in the district of Faro and two in Santarém pose a very high risk of fires in the countryside this Sunday.

The municipalities of Tomar and Vila Nova de Barquinha in the district of Santarém are at risk, as are the municipalities of Aljezur, Monchique, Lagos, Portimão, Silves, Loulé, Sant Bras de Alportel, Tavira, Castro Marim and Alcoutim in the Faro region .

IPMA has placed about six dozen other municipalities in the districts of Bragança, Vila Real, Viseu, Guarda, Castelo Branco, Coimbra, Leiria, Portalegre, Santarém, Lisbon, Beja and Faro at high risk.

The fire risk defined by IPMA has five levels: from minimum to maximum.

Calculations are made based on air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed and precipitation over the past 24 hours.

The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere predicts periods of very cloudy skies this Sunday, with very cloudy weather on the coast until early morning and the possibility of light rain or drizzle, as well as a gradual decrease in cloudiness in the afternoon.

Chance of showers in the hinterland in the afternoon, with light to moderate winds from the North Quadrant, with some strong winds in the Central Highlands and coastal strip in the afternoon.

Forecasts indicate a slight increase in maximum temperature.

Maximum temperatures will range from 22 degrees Celsius in Guarda to 29 degrees in Faro.
