National Director of the Judicial Police (PJ) Luis Neves announced this Wednesday that the European Union is studying the creation of an online traffic enforcement agency to identify suspects who upload and share pornographic files of minors. It is assumed that the new organization will appear in the image and likeness of the North American National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC).
On the sidelines of a workshop to promote “digital well-being” in Lisbon, Luis Neves acknowledged the NCMEC’s important contribution to launching investigations against underage pornography. But “the information that comes in needs to be processed and analyzed. It does not identify suspects and does not say who transports, sells or makes available child pornography,” he explained. “The 27 countries of the European Union are thinking about creating a platform like NCMEC, which should appear as a result of negotiations with operators,” he added. Luis Neves added that Portugal could be the location of this future European structure.
