In the Year 2 Artistic Expression Assessment test this Thursday, 7-8 year olds were asked to imitate the movement and sound of an earthworm and a blind frog. “Do we laugh or cry when faced with this?” asked a teacher in a social media group.
“The craziness of these tests is at its peak,” a teacher also wrote, while other teachers called on parents to boycott the tests. Many professors also believe that the test questions do not correspond to the content that students are studying, and others joke about the situation: “Do blind frogs make different sounds?” he asked. Another exercise was to create a standing sculpture from a sheet of paper. “There were those who cried and nearly gave up,” the teacher said.
Carla Carvalho, 1st cycle teacher in Lisbon, disagrees with criticism and statements cm, considered the test “interesting”, although “too long” for the available time (an hour and a half for the dramatic-musical part of the expression and 45 minutes for the plastic expressiveness). This teacher claims that he disputes, first of all, the obligation of the 2nd year students to take tests in mathematics, Portuguese and ecology on the computer, which are scheduled for June.
From this Friday until the 11th, in connection with these competitions, there will be a strike by the Union of All Education Workers (STOP), without any minimum services provided by the Arbitration Board. The strike does not apply to non-teaching workers, as STOP clarified yesterday.
