This Friday, the PS leader reiterated that he considers the disclosure of secret documents by the TAR Commission of Inquiry to be the starting point for parliament after the opposition criticized him for raising “unfounded suspicions”.
“What happened last week was a disservice on the part of this semi-cycle (…), because obviously what happened, I emphasize again, was a segmented, fragmentary leak of secret documents received by this institution” , said Euriko Brillante Days.
This response of the PS parliamentary leader came after, at the beginning of the plenary session, his PSD colleague Joaquim Miranda Sarmento asked a question at the table to regret the “very serious accusation” made by Brilliant Diaz last week in which he considered that information had been leaked. made by members of parliament.
“We do not know what the basis for this accusation of Mr. Brillante Diaz is, and this Friday, a week later, it seems relatively clear to us that the information that was released to the press in those days did not come from a parliamentary committee. investigation, but rather from other sources, namely a former adviser to the Ministry of Infrastructure,” said the leader of the PSD parliament.
Answering this question, Brillante Diaz stressed that the parliamentary commission of inquiry, given the disclosure of confidential documents, understands “to take appropriate steps” with the “consent of all parliamentarians”, including the PSD.
After this speech, Chegi MP Filipe Melo stressed that the parties agreed to start an investigation into what happened, but refused that the MP “placed unfounded suspicions on the commission, which is doing its job, which is uncomfortable for the Government” and for PS.
The MP from Chega also added that the information released was based on “original documents” and emphasized that “the documents that come from the commission of inquiry are zero because they cannot be printed, photocopied or mailed”, leading to the assumption that the disclosure of confidential documents could not come from Parliament.
Bloc de Esquerda parliamentary leader Pedro Filipe Soares pointed out that “irrespective of the will of the parliamentary groups”, when there is suspicion of a leak of classified information, it follows from the law that an investigation must be launched, which Parliament did.
“What is on the table here, in addition, is the parliamentary leader of the PS, who is not on the commission of inquiry, makes a number of remarks about the deputies of the commission of inquiry, offends his honor and, they, offends the honor of the Assembly of the Republic,” he said.
In the same vein, PKP MP Bruno Diaz also stressed that the “position” of the parties regarding the commencement of the investigative process is completely irrelevant, since it follows from the law, and expressed regret that the Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry is an intermediary for “everything, other than what is said in their writings.
“As for this kind of discussion, this kind of shouting, we cannot help but notice that someone benefits a lot from this, but this is not the Assembly of the Republic and certainly not a country,” he stressed.
IL Parliament leader Rodrigo Saraiva also said that there was a “legal basis” to start an investigation process and stressed that the past legislature had also investigated the leak of information about the parliamentary commission of inquiry.
“This is what should happen, with complete calmness, in the fact that the parliament is functioning, in its legal framework. Everything else is staged to hide the discomfort that arises from parliamentary control,” he stressed.
After these speeches, Eurico Brillante Diaz emphasized that “the government obeyed the Assembly of the Republic, submitted documents, these documents were immediately commented on by parliamentarians, and the next day they were on the front pages of newspapers.”
“In particular, most of the information that, in a fragmented form, weakens the public interest, the interest of the state. This is just my point of view: to check the facts that could happen, I emphasize, only in our house, ”he said.
After this discussion, the President of the Assembly of the Republic confirmed that he had already received a request from the parliamentary commission of inquiry in the TAR to open the investigation process, but emphasized that he was still studying it because this parliamentary body had asked him to be the one that “contributes to this brief investigation.”
“I am still learning how best, while respecting the law, to help the parliamentary commission of inquiry also do what the law obliges it to do,” he stressed.
Santos Silva also considered that “it is a fact that the secret documents in the custody of the parliamentary commission of inquiry were the object of an illegal, illegitimate and also politically very reprehensible disclosure, because it is clear that this was an interested and selective disclosure. , with clear political goals”.
