Russia is moving Wagner group mercenaries along the front line towards Bakhmut in eastern Ukraine, Deputy Defense Minister Anna Malyar said on Ukrainian television, citing Reuters.
According to Malyar, Moscow wants to take the city of Bakhmut for the celebration of Victory Day, which marks the European victory of the Allies over the Nazi regime.
“We are now seeing how they (the militants) are withdrawing from the entire offensive line, where the Wagner fighters were, taking them towards Bakhmut,” the deputy defense minister said.
This Friday, The leader of the Wagner Group, Yevgeny Prigozhin, said that his troops would leave the Ukrainian city of Bakhmut on May 10, next Wednesday, due to lack of ammunition.
