The city council of Caminha unanimously decided this Wednesday to cancel a promise contract made by Miguel Alves, the prime minister’s former deputy secretary of state, to build a cross-border exhibition center.
According to Newsthe municipality also demands the return of the already advanced 300,000 euros.
The inclusion of an item on the agenda of this Wednesday’s city council meeting to allow the mayor to initiate “procedures aimed at” resolving the promised treaty signed in 2020 was proposed by socialist mayor Rui Laies and sparked outrage from the coalition “O Concelho em Primeiro” (PSD /CDS-PP/Aliança/PPM), who said she was surprised by the question.
Claiming they were unaware of the proposal, the three councilors asked for a 15-minute break to analyze a document that will be presented to the municipal assembly on Tuesday and which they encountered at the beginning of the council meeting.
After deliberation, the councilors of the “O Concelho em Primeiro” coalition approved the inclusion of the item on the agenda, which, after a formal presentation by the municipal executive, was unanimously approved.
