Captain Funchal warns of bad weather and strong winds in Madeira

The Funchal Port Authority this Monday issued a bad weather and strong wind warning for the coastline of the Madeira archipelago, which will be valid until 18:00 Tuesday.

The warnings are based on the forecasts of the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA) regarding the general weather situation (wind and sea) on the coast.

One of the announcements states that the wind will blow from the north/northeast “fresh to very fresh, temporarily strong from the end of the day.”

As for the swell, the captain claims that it will be about three meters on the north coast and up to two meters on the south.

In the bad weather warning, the regional maritime authority indicates that it is classified as “signal six,” meaning winds between 51 and 62 kilometers per hour from any direction.

“Owners and ship owners are advised to take the necessary precautions to ensure their safety,” the captain’s notices read.
