The intelligence services of the United States of America (USA) were aware that the leader of the Wagner Group, Yevgeny Prigozhin, was planning an uprising against the Russian military leadership. Information has been provided Washington Post.
According to the American newspaper, intelligence agencies knew that the paramilitaries would start a revolution and had been on high alert for the past two weeks. At the time, the nature of these plans was unclear.
One official, who spoke to the same newspaper on condition of anonymity, said that tensions in Russia became more palpable when Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu ordered Wagner fighters to sign contracts with the Russian government on June 10.
On Friday, Prigozhin gave Russia a “red alert” when he announced a coup to overthrow Moscow’s military leadership. He guaranteed that none of the combatants would surrender and that they would continue to fight for justice. The troops arrived 200 kilometers from the Russian capital, but eventually retreated to avoid the “bloodbath”.
