The Portuguese Navy, through the Lisbon Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center (MRCC Lisboa), coordinated this Thursday night the search and rescue operation of a 36-year-old man of French nationality who was on board. sailing ship under the French flag “SHAMROCK SOLO SAILOR”.
The sailboat had sailed approximately 240 miles, equivalent to 444 kilometers, northeast of Porto Santo Island while participating in the LA BOULANGERE MINITRANSAT regatta when it called for assistance from the Lisbon MRCC via an EPIRB alert. , around 9:15 p.m., with information that the sailboat was irreparably damaged and was in danger of sinking.
Several ships were immediately found in the area of the sailing ship, and this morning the crew member was rescued by the merchant vessel “WAN HAI A07”.
The Navy, through its Maritime Search and Rescue Centers, ensures continuous response to possible incidents throughout the country.
