“On November 1, 2023, on All Saints’ Day, engineer Pedro Pereira Coutinho Teixeira Duarte passed away, a fact that leaves the company and each of the many he touched directly or indirectly in mourning,” the company said. in a note published this Friday.
Pedro Teixeira Duarte, born on August 24, 1918 in Lorignan, is the son of Ricardo Teixeira Duarte, who was responsible for starting the construction company in 1921.
Pedro Teixeira Duarte, who received a degree in civil engineering from the Instituto Superior Técnico, also specialized in geotechnical engineering.
In Teixeira Duarte he held various positions such as director of geodetic works, director of works and co-author of studies and projects in the field of geotechnics and foundation engineering, as well as director of the geodetic sector and then director of the park and machine shop, machinery and equipment.
After his father’s death in 1959, he became the company’s manager and general director, a position he held until 1987.
He later assumed the role of Chairman of the Board of Directors of Teixeira Duarte – Engenharia e Construções.
In 2008, at the age of 90, he no longer held management or operational positions in the company and was succeeded as chairman of the board by his son Pedro Calaiño Teixeira Duarte.
This position has been held by Manuel Maria Teixeira Duarte from October 2021 to the present day.
“I have always wanted the company to have effective relationships with its “neighbors” and to be a partner in its field of activity through the way it collaborated with government organizations in related projects and research,” the company emphasized, also keeping in mind its human skills , engineer, leader and entrepreneur.
In 2006, Pedro Teixeira Duarte was awarded the title of Grand Officer of the Order of Infante D. Enrique by the President of the Republic, Jorge Sampaio.
Teixeira Duarte’s group currently employs 9,500 people in 22 countries.
