Ten areas of mainland Portugal will be under a red warning this weekend due to a forecast of rough seas, the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) said.
Porto, Viana do Castelo, Aveiro, Coimbra and Braga will be under a red warning from 18:00 this Saturday until 12:00 Sunday due to the forecast of “northwest waves measuring 7 to 9 meters, the maximum height of which could reach 15/16 meters.” .
On Sunday, Faro, Setúbal and Beja will be under a red warning from 6:00 am to 12:00 pm, and Lisbon and Leiria from 0:00 am to 12:00 pm also due to rough seas forecast, according to the sea rough weather forecast. IPMA Note.
Vila Real will be under an orange warning until 9am this morning.
The IPMA has also issued an orange warning for the northern coast of Madeira and Porto Santo due to rough seas from 3am to 9pm on Sunday.
A red alert is the most severe on a scale of three (red, orange and yellow).
An orange warning is issued by the IPMA whenever there is a “moderate to high risk meteorological situation, and a yellow warning when there is a risk situation for certain activities dependent on the meteorological situation.”
