Almada welcomes April with theater and exhibitions

The Almada Theater Troupe (CTA) wants to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Carnation Revolution in a big way. At the presentation of this year’s program at the Joaquim Benite Theater, the artistic director of the group, Rodrigo Francisco, announced the premiere of the play “How Lucky We Are!” – A play about April,” in the creation of which playwrights participated.

António Cabrita, Jacinto Lucas Pires, Luisa Costa Gomez, Patricia Portela and Rui Cardoso Martins. Martim Sousa Tavares will compose the music for this project. The person in charge also said that this structure in Margem Sul is organizing, together with José Pacheco Pereira’s Archive of Ephemera, four exhibitions that will illustrate “how the freedom achieved in 1974 led to the explosion of independent theater.”

In addition to this show, set to debut on April 12 directed by Teresa Gafeira, the CTA will also premiere The Future is Gone, marking the return of German director Peter Kleinert to Almada (in March) and Everything Has a Beginning, written and directed Rodrigo Francisco (December). Another highlight of the program will be the repeat of “Alem da Dor”, which SPA recognized as the best show of 2022.

Among the foreign productions, noteworthy is the presentation of the play “Without a Tambour” by the Théâtre Bouffe du Nord (July).

António Pires and Nuno Cariñas will present their works at the Almada: the former will perform Brecht’s Mae Coragem, Cariñas will stage a play by Gil Vicente.

In addition to the children’s program and ballets, concerts by Jorge Palma, Carolina Deslandes and Luisa Sobral are planned.
