The United States, Japan and South Korea condemned North Korea’s nuclear and missile programs and the country’s growing closeness to Russia at a meeting in Washington, according to a joint statement released Saturday.
During a trilateral meeting in the North American capital on Friday, the countries also criticized Beijing’s “illegal” claims over the South China Sea, South Korea’s Yonhap news agency reported.
“They condemned North Korea’s continued development of illegal nuclear and ballistic missile programs, growing military cooperation with Russia and serious human rights violations,” said the note issued by South Korean Deputy Foreign Minister Chung Byung-won. and his North American and Japanese colleagues Daniel Krietenbrink and Yasuhiro Kobe, respectively.
