Thinking about the passion, perseverance and dedication of everyone who dreams of a place on the podium, Betano reopened its social responsibility program Herois Betanowhich currently operates six amateur sports projects, in which dozens of athletes participate.
This project began at the end of 2021 and consists of the support provided by Betano to athletes, teams or institutions that have ambitious sporting goals, but do not have the necessary resources to achieve them. Many of them are semi-professional athletes with “normal” jobs and careers who devote themselves to sports in their free time.

The program began with five inspiring stories: Hélio Fumo, Hugo Rocha, Iron Brothers, Norberto Mourão and Paulo Alves, and in 2022 it was joined by Sonia Tubal, Maria Manuel Lopez, José Souza and the Sexto Sentido project. It’s your turn!
After two years of initiative, the brand is once again inviting new heroes to join the Betano family. just be over 18 years old and apply on Herois.pt. Applications can be individual or collective, since the initiative is addressed to athletes or amateur teams. The selection is made by a panel of Betano judges based on criteria such as the candidate’s sporting history, his goals, as well as the challenges and obstacles he faces and the type of support he needs.

Betano, trail running hero
Elio Fumo, 40, started running under the influence of his cousin, but quickly discovered that running was more of a passion and a calling.
Master in Social and Organizational Psychology and current national trail running champion, he represented Portugal at the World Trail and Mountain Running Championships in Thailand in November 2022. Hélio Fumo is also the protagonist of Alimenta Esta Corrida, a social sports project that helps collect food. supplies for the most disadvantaged.
Betano Triathlon Heroes

Miguel and Pedro Pinto (or “The Iron Brothers”), 37 and 35 years old respectively, are two brothers and true ambassadors of the sport in Portugal. Together they participate in running and triathlon competitions.
Pedro has cerebral palsy, but he never let it limit his dreams. Pushed and pushed by his brother Miguel, he trains to actively help people with cerebral palsy and exercise. In 2022, the Iron Brothers competed in the Ironman European Championships in Hamburg, Germany.
Betano, hero of kempo

Maria Manuel Lopez, 19 years old, has been practicing kempo since she was 3 years old and has won titles at the national and international level.
A medical student with a passion for politics and a martial arts practitioner since the age of three, Maria Lopez from Espinho is a black belt in kempo and has already won several international titles at the World Championships in all styles. The athlete was a six-time national champion and a five-time world champion.
Athletics Hero Betano

Jose Souza, 34, uses his legs every day to get to work and thus provides himself with time to exercise. The 2023 national marathon champion, he was also Europe’s top athlete at the Geneva Marathon, crossing the finish line in seventh place.
