The Secretary of State for Youth and Sports (SEJD), João Paulo Correia, praised this Saturday the prestigious achievement of tennis player Nuno Borges, who reached the 1/8 finals of the Australian Open.
“Congratulations to Nuno Borges on his unprecedented qualification to the round of 16 of the Australian Open! This is another achievement that brings great credit to Portuguese sports in such a highly competitive sport as tennis,” the official wrote on the social network X.
Nuno Borges, 69th in the world rankings, beat Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov, 13th in the same hierarchy, with scores of 6-7 (3-7), 6-4, 6-2 and 7-6 (8-6) , in a competition that lasted three hours and five minutes.
In the third round of the first Grand Slam tournament of the season, the 26-year-old will meet Russian Daniil Medvedev, who is ranked third in the world.
