Do you live in Porto and travel by bus? You will now be able to see wait times on Google Maps.

Sociedade de Transportes Coletivos do Porto (STCP) real-time bus timetables will appear on Google Maps by the end of the year, and the company also intends to expand a new eight-stop pilot project to 650.

When asked if there are plans to make bus schedules available in real time on apps like Google Maps, an official source from STCP told Lusa that “yes, not only on this platform but also on other platforms including the ‘app’.” [aplicação móvel] STCP,” which is expected to happen “by the end of this year.”

“We haven’t moved to real-time graphics yet because we’re pursuing a new SAEI (Systems for Intelligence and Information Information) project that will greatly simplify the development work that would be required with the current system,” the company explains, recalling that Google Maps already shows planned line schedules since 2016.

On Tuesday, Porto City Council announced that, as part of a pilot project at eight stops, bus timetables and routes are now available in real time on new screens in shelters, in electronic paper format (“e-paper”) in addition to a map corresponding to the route of each line and audio messages.

The stops on the map are Praça D. João I (PRDJ), Praça Filipa de Lencastre (PRFL), Campanhã (CMP2), Boavista — Casa da Música (BCM1), Fluvial (FLU2), Sea Life Castelo do Queijo (CQ5). , Hospital São João (District) (HSJ9) and Catholic University (UC2).

In its response to Lusa, STCP states that it has a “goal of installing 650 shelters in Porto and then in other municipalities” served by STCP.

The pilot project is part of the development of new functions for the Explore.Porto service, which already provides this kind of information at bus stops through a QR code attached to the structure itself, or directly through the address explore.porto.pt. According to the Porto Chamber.

Explore.Porto is one of the online platforms where STCP provides real-time timetables, including STCP’s own website (since 2011), QR codes at all stops, SMS Bus service (since 2005) or Move- app me. , from the Porto Metropolitan Area (AMP).

Real-time information is also displayed on screens at the Casa da Música, Campanhã, São Bento and Trindade metro stations, on 56 public information panels “at the main metropolitan stops” in the six municipalities where it operates, and on Infopub screens in Hospital São . Joao and at the airport, in addition to the Matosinhos Living Laboratory project.

Lusa also asked AMP about the availability of a similar service on the new Unir network, as provided for in the tender specifications, but has not yet received a response.
