The Food and Economic Security Authority (ASAE) seized 4,300 carnival items, including masks and other accessories, worth almost 42,000 euros, after checking among 115 economic operators, the agency said on Friday.
ASAE said in a statement that in recent days it had carried out an inspection operation from the north to the south of the country, which it called “Operation Entrumo Seguro”, the purpose of which was to “verify the legal compliance of goods sold in this operation.” Carnival season.”
As a result, 4,300 items were seized, “namely camouflage masks, toys and accessories, due to non-compliance with legal and safety requirements, with an estimated value of €41,800 in all.”
Items were seized as a result of inspections from 115 economic operators, “criminal cases were opened on the sale of counterfeit products and fraud with goods, as well as 16 cases of administrative offenses.”
According to ASAE, the main violations identified were failure to comply with distributors’ information responsibilities, lack of mandatory references on labeling, lack of translation into Portuguese and lack of CE marking.
“ASAE will continue to develop inspection activities within its purview throughout the country to ensure the protection of health and physical safety within the framework of consumer rights,” the organization also said.
