The CDU opened the eighth day of its election campaign this Sunday with a meeting with representatives of micro, small and medium-sized businesses to dispel the myth that they are against companies and demand changes in the country’s economic policy.
In a different initiative from all those already implemented by the Unitary Democratic Coalition (CDU, uniting PCP and PEV) during this official election campaign period, PCP Secretary General Paulo Raimundo listened to testimonies from several small business owners. – from clothing to aesthetics, including insurance or gyms – and emphasized the need to support the activities of these people to the detriment of large economic groups.
“This is a good opportunity to dispel once and for all the myth that the CDU is anti-development and anti-company. Not only are we not against this, but we also believe that it is important for stimulating economic activity. The problem is that we have a problem: a policy aimed at supporting not the economy, but the 1% of those who carry out economic activities, and which alienates 99% of the Portuguese business community,” he said.
Stressing that the national economic policy “responds to the needs of large economic groups” and citing as an example Sonae’s support of 400 thousand euros to increase the cost of the minimum wage, the communist leader stressed that these groups are “swallowing and crushing” micro, small and medium enterprises. small entrepreneurs (MSMEs).
“When we demand wages, we know that this is an effort for MSMEs. But this is an investment,” he noted.
He also added that measures such as price fixing in certain areas and VAT reductions on energy or telecommunications are aimed at helping entrepreneurs cope with the contextual costs of their activities.
“MSMEs are allies of the CDU project. It is necessary to positively discriminate against the 99%, not the 1%. That makes a big difference.”
Also present at the meeting, candidate for the Setúbal district and parliamentary leader of the PCP, Paula Santos, emphasized the “great relevance” of collecting contributions from MSMEs, recalling that it is these people who “make the economy work every day” in the country, in addition to being responsible for the “important part” in terms of employment.
“The truth is that they have experienced some difficulties due to the loss of purchasing power of workers and retirees. The less money, the less purchasing power. Increasing wages and pensions helps improve the quality of life, but this is also a fundamental element of stimulating domestic consumption,” he emphasized.
Paula Santos also recalled several proposals presented by the Communists in this area and stressed that small business owners will not be forgotten by the CDU.
“In our project, which we propose for the region and the country, support for MSMEs is a very important aspect,” he concluded.
