Jose Maria Azevedo, former Sporting Braga star, dies

Former Portuguese footballer José Maria Azevedo, a player who most often played for Sporting Braga, has died at the age of 88, the Minho club announced today on their official page.

“Braga deeply regrets the death of José Maria Azevedo, a former iconic player for the club between 1955 and 1971 and winner of the 1966 Portuguese Cup, and expresses its deepest condolences to his family and friends,” the club said in a statement. .

At the same time, the people of Braga remember that the right-back is still the player who has played the most games for Sporting Braga (409 in total) and the only one who has also passed the 400-game mark in a career completely completed in ” Arsenalists” between 1955 and 1969.

The funeral of José Maria Azevedo is scheduled for Tuesday, starting at 10:30, at the Church of San Lazaro in Braga.
