Traffic on the Lisbon metro’s Green Line has been fully restored since 10pm this Friday following a “low speed derailment” of a train carriage this morning near the entrance to Alvalade station.
In a statement, the company explained that “the necessary road clearing work at Alvalade station has been completed, allowing traffic on the entire line to begin today.”
“Lisbon Metropolitano regrets the inconvenience that this situation may have caused its customers and thanks them for their understanding,” he further stressed.
Train services on the Yellow and Green lines were disrupted from 7.48am this morning due to a faulty signaling system, with the Yellow Line fully reopening at 10.02am.
A train carriage derailed at low speed near the entrance to Alvalade station on Friday morning due to a needle malfunction, but no one was injured in the incident.
After the train stopped two meters from the Alvalade station, the approximately 500 passengers it was carrying had to be removed through the gallery.
Speaking to reporters at the scene, José Marquez, operational commander of the Sapadores fire regiment, said around 10 a.m. that the evacuation operation of the station had been completed and all passengers were abroad.
The Lisbon Metropolitano also announced that it had launched an investigation to determine the circumstances under which the incident occurred.
The Lisbon Metro operates daily with four lines: yellow (Rato-Odivelas), green (Telheiras-Cais do Sodre), blue (Reboleira-Santa Apolonia) and red (Airport-Sao Sebastian).
The metro usually operates from 6:30 to 1:00.
