Portuguese football coach Jose Mourinho was greeted this Sunday by a crowd of fans of Fenerbahçe, the club he will coach, at Sabia Göcken Airport in Istanbul.
Mourinho, 61, flew in on a private flight and then traveled with club officials to the stadium where he is expected to sign his contract this Sunday.
The arrival of the Portuguese coach, who has been absent from the bench since mid-January when he was sacked by Italian side Roma, was broadcast live on the club’s YouTube channel.
Fenerbahçe is the second most titled club in Turkey with 19 championship scepters, behind only Galatasaray (24), but has not lifted the trophy for ten years, since the 2013/14 season. In the last three seasons she finished in second place, and in the last one she was only three points behind her eternal rival, who became a two-time champion.
Jose Mourinho, who replaces Ismail Cartal in this position, will become the third Portuguese coach to lead Fenerbahce, after Vitor Pereira (between 2015 and 2016, as well as in the 2021/22 season) and Jorge Jesus (2022/23).
The Istanbul team will be the 10th club that Mourinho will manage in his career, after Benfica, Unia Leiria, Porto, Chelsea (twice), Inter Milan, Real Madrid, Manchester United , Tottenham and Roma.
