Pope Francis will meet with more than 100 comedians from around the world. Three are Portuguese.

Pope Francis will meet with more than 100 international comedians next Friday, the Holy See said, citing Vatican News. The meeting will feature three Portuguese comedians: Maria Rueff, Ricardo Araújo Pereira and Joana Marques.

The event, scheduled for 8:30 a.m. at the Apostolic Palace, aims to “establish a connection” between the Catholic Church and these artists. The purpose of the meeting is to “celebrate the beauty of diversity and promote a message of peace, love and solidarity.”

Jimmy Fallon, Conan O’Brien, Whoopi Goldberg and Chris Rock will be some of the most famous guests around the world, in addition to Brazilians Fabio Porciata and Christian Verson. The vast majority of comedians present will be from Italy.

The event is organized jointly by the Dicastery of Culture and Education, headed by Portuguese Cardinal José Tolentino de Mendonça, and the Vatican Dicastery of Communication, headed by Italian journalist Paolo Ruffini.

The statement, quoted by Vatican News, is reminiscent of Pope Francis’ words in an old interview in which the leader of the Catholic Church asked God to bless him with a “sense of humor.”
