Jan Maatsen’s father drove around six hours from the Netherlands to Germany to deliver the boots to his son after he was urgently called up to represent the Dutch national team.
22-year-old Jan Maatsen, who had not played for the national team and was already on holiday in Greece, was called up to replace De Jong, who never recovered from his injury.
Edward Maatsen drove 300 kilometers from the Dutch city of Vlaardingen to Dortmund to pick up his boots, and then drove another 300 kilometers to Wolfsburg, where his son was already playing for the national team.
“Ian said he wanted to come to the Netherlands, but it didn’t seem like a good idea. The Euro is the icing on the cake. We are very proud of this and do everything we can to help him and keep him on the right path. way,” the father explained.
