Candidate Kamala Harris Adds Endorsement in Race for Democratic Nomination

Some of the Democratic Party’s top figures and even potential rivals in the race for the nomination rallied Monday to endorse Kamala Harris as a candidate in the November presidential election after Joe Biden withdrew his candidacy, solidifying her position as a heavy favorite to face Trump at the polls, though some Democratic circles continue to defend the open nominating process.

Time is running out, and with the Democratic National Convention less than a month away, much of the party has rushed to reaffirm its support for Harris’s bid for the White House. Biden was first, minutes after announcing his withdrawal from the race, followed by the main African-American Democratic Caucus in Congress, several prominent donors, and some of the powerful political action committees, or super PACs, as they are known. They were also joined by several congressmen, senators, and governors who were considered potential rivals for Kamala’s nomination, such as Gavin Newsom, Gretchen Whitmer, and Joe Manchin.

After a notable nearly 24-hour silence, powerful former House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi also announced her “official, personal and political” support for Kamala Harris on Monday afternoon, but other key figures like Barack Obama and Chuck Schumer have remained silent. “I have every confidence that the leaders of our party are capable of charting a process to select a fantastic nominee,” the former president said, without mentioning Kamala.

Some Democrats continue to advocate for an open process for multiple nominees, including Peter Welch, who was the first Democratic senator to call on Biden to resign, and Michael Bloomberg, a former Democratic primary candidate and major party donor who on Monday urged leadership to “listen to voters” before making a decision.

Harris, who has raised nearly $50 million in campaign contributions since Biden’s departure, attended a formal White House event Monday but made no mention of her candidacy, instead crediting Joe Biden for his “incomparable legacy over the last three years.”

TRUMP GAVE 6 THOUSAND
Trump donated $6,000 to Kamala Harris’ campaign in 2011 when she was California’s district attorney.

“WE PASSED”
The attack on Trump was the “biggest failure of the Secret Service in decades,” agency Director Kimberly Cheatle admitted to Congress.

DEADLY PROBES
Biden will decide to drop out of the election when he faces polls that show he is not only backing Trump in the six “swing states” that will decide the election, but also losing large numbers of votes in states that have so far been considered safe, such as Virginia and Minnesota.

“I CAN’T CONTINUE”
“If Biden is not fit to be a candidate, he is not fit to hold office,” Donald Trump wrote on social media yesterday, asking, “Who is running this country now?” The Republican nominee also accused Biden of lying to the country: “He never had Covid.”
