The winner of the 85th Volta a Portugal cycling race will be known this Sunday following the 10th stage of the 26.6 km time trial in Viseu, where Russian Artem Nykh (Sabgal-Anicolor) is in pole position.
After finishing second on stage nine at the summit of Senhora da Graça in Mondim de Basto, the 29-year-old Russian has donned the yellow jersey and leads the overall standings by 49 seconds from Puerto Rican Abner González (Ephapel), second in the classification, and 53 from Switzerland’s Colin Stüssi (Vorarlberg), third.
The succession of Stüssy, the 2023 champion, will be decided in the chrono without any major difficulties on the track, in which Gonçalo Leasa (Credibom-LA Alumínios-MarcosCar) will be the best Portuguese, finishing fourth, 57 seconds behind.
In the top ten, the second Portuguese is former general leader Afonso Eulálio (ABTF-Feirense), who is sixth, 1.50 minutes off the top spot.
The city of Viseu, which in 2021 also hosted the final time trial of the Tour, also crowns the leaders of several minor classifications, in this case the Spaniard Luis Ángel Mate (Euskaltel-Euskadi) as the winner of the mountain and the Argentine Nicolás Tivani (Aviludo-Luleto-Lule Conselló) who scored points, as well as the Spaniard Jaume Guardeño (Caja Rural-Seguros RGA), 10th overall and leader of the youth.
