New bankruptcy threatens Jacques Rodriguez’s media empire

The parent company of the Impala group, owned by Jacques Rodriguez, owner of the magazines Nova Gente, Maria and TV 7 Dias, has been declared insolvent.

The Madeira District Court, the Commercial Court of Funchal, declared Impalagest insolvent on July 30, according to documents that CM had access.

Impalagest has been declared bankrupt by the financial company Ares Lusitani. Impalagest owns 95% of the share capital of Descobrirpress, a company that has been insolvent since 2022 and is the initiator of the criminal case under which Jacques Rodrigues is being investigated. Impalagest’s assets include the group’s headquarters building in Ranholas, Sintra, as well as controlling stakes in several group companies, including Actitur, the company that owns the Ondamar Hotel building in the Algarve, which is also the subject of a bankruptcy petition.

The deadline for submitting applications for loans was set at 30 days. After determining who owed what, the court would begin liquidating the assets. According to CMSome creditors of the former Discovererpress, who have obtained judicial recognition of their loans and the liability of Impalagest, are demanding amounts exceeding 30 million euros. Social security and the tax office are also on this list.
