The Aveiro City Council, owner of the municipal stadium, holds the Sporting players fully responsible for the collapse of a glass partition in the box where the athletes were watching the Super Cup match between Porto and Sporting. A shard of glass seriously injured a 22-year-old girl, a fan of the Alvalade team.
In its statement, the municipality guarantees that the structure has already been inspected and that the incident occurred only due to inappropriate behavior: “Sporting” about a young Sporting fan who was seriously injured as a result of blows that the aforementioned Sporting players made on the glass in question during a game”, can be read in the document.
The City Council goes further and confirms the players’ guilt: “It was not the glass that broke, but its mountings. The cause of the accident was the successive blows that Sporting players threw at the glass throughout the game, which led to its destruction, as reported by several witnesses at the scene and on video, where one can see the disproportionate and unreasonable force that these glass structures were subjected to,” the statement reads.
