International referee Artur Soares Dias has ended his professional career at the age of 45 after officiating at the 2024 European Football Championship, a source connected to the process has confirmed to Luce.
A source connected to the process contacted by Lusa confirmed the retirement of Soares Dias, the nation’s highest-ranking referee, who officiated three Euro 2024 matches this summer.
He has previously competed at Euro 2020, the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games and the 2015 FIFA U-20 World Championship, among other competitions, and has held the first category since 2004 and become an international in 2010.
Soares Dias, born in Vila Nova de Gaia, is a member of the Porto Football Association. He refereed the 2023/24 Europa Conference League final in May, when Olympiacos beat Fiorentina.
He has refereed the Portuguese Cup final twice, in 2016 and 2020.
