The Porto Pepe footballer has filed a complaint with the PSP after being the target of alleged racist abuse during a match against Famalicao this Thursday. Player Santi Colombatto reportedly called Pepe “mono”, which means “monkey” in Spanish. The information was provided by Record and confirmed in the “Dragões Diário” newsletter.
“We must lead by example. When we lose, it’s boring, but we can’t insult or humiliate others,” said the captain of the “dragons” after the game, quoted in the Dragões Diário newsletter.
When the game ended, with Porto winning 3-2, the centre-back said in an RTP statement that he simply did not leave the field out of respect for all the fans who paid for his game.
Pepe even criticized the referee, who was following the whole situation and did not act. “He had the authority and the evidence to change the black history of football, and he didn’t do it, this is unacceptable,” he stressed.
