A fire destroyed a patch of shrubs and sugarcane in the city of Almada de Ouro, parish of Azinhal, municipality of Castro Marim. He was considered dominant at 11:20 p.m., a civil protection source told Luce.
The alarm was announced at 16:21. The fire had an active front, which was heading towards the city of Junqueira.
From 10:00 p.m., a weakening of the wind was expected, which created more favorable conditions for extinguishing the fire. The location is difficult to access, which led to the operation of tracked vehicles.
142 operators with 50 vehicles were involved in the fight against the flames. The Spanish air force was also involved, which in the meantime withdrew from the theater of operations.
There have been no reports of damage to homes or casualties so far.
