The Food and Economic Security Authority (ASAE) announced this Sunday that it had charged six people following an operation with the Lisbon Maritime Police against economic operators on the beaches of Costa da Caparica (Setúbal).
In a statement, ASAE explained that the operation took place on Saturday and early Sunday morning, specifically on the beaches of São João, Frente Urbana and Fonte da Telha in the municipality of Almada, with the aim of protecting consumers and promoting healthy competition between economic operators and protecting public health.
“11 business entities were inspected, six criminal cases were opened for the spoilage of food products (unfit for consumption), fraud with goods related to the pouring of decanters with lower-quality olive oil and the usurpation of musical activities,” the report says.
ASAE also found seven violations, namely: breach of general operator duties, failure to label alcoholic beverages, improper use of unsecured bottles and hygiene violations.
“The immediate suspension of the activities of two economic operators was also established by ASAE due to the lack of hygiene in catering establishments and various good quality materials, food products unsuitable for consumption, about 20 graten and various alcoholic beverages worth about 11,500 euros were seized,” the document says.
ASAE also points out that measures to establish identity and residence were taken against six of the accused.
According to ASAE, 10 inspectors and 27 members of the local command of the Lisbon maritime police took part in this action.
