One of the alleged masterminds of the Sao Tome and Principe coup attempt this morning and three of the four attackers on the barracks died, a source connected to the process told Lusa.
The armed forces detained four male civilians who, around 00:40 (local time, the same time in Lisbon), attacked a military barracks, allegedly to steal weapons, in an operation that was completed around 06:00 after the intervention of the marines .
In the early hours of the morning, the military arrested former National Assembly President Delfim Neves, currently a deputy from the Basta movement, and Arlesio Costa, a former Buffalo Battalion officer convicted in 2009 of attempting a coup d’état, allegedly identified by the attackers as masterminds, at their homes.
