A one-week humanitarian truce between the army and Sudanese special forces came into effect this morning, May 22, according to the Sudan News Agency.
The ceasefire will enter into force on Monday at 09:45 Khartoum time.
The agreement provides that the warring parties will facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid, the restoration of public services and the withdrawal of military units from hospitals and public facilities.
The humanitarian truce was signed on Saturday May 20 with the assistance of Washington and Riyadh. Compliance will be regulated by an international monitoring mechanism backed by the United States and Saudi Arabia.
The Sudanese army and the opposition rapid reaction force also pledged not to seek local clashes on the ground for 48 hours prior to the start of the humanitarian truce.
