The Ukrainian nuclear power plant in Zaporizhia has restored power after being cut off for several hours, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said on Monday, insisting it needs to be protected from bombing to avoid radioactive leaks.
“This morning, the Zaporozhye NPP was without electricity for several hours, which underlines the extremely precarious situation with the nuclear safety of the facilities and the urgent need to protect them and prevent an accident,” IAEA Director Rafael Grossi said in a statement.
The Vienna-based IAEA, the United Nations specialized agency responsible for ensuring the peaceful uses of nuclear technology, sent a mission to Zaporozhye to monitor plant safety.
