Almost 60% of Moldovans do not believe that democracy is developing in the country, but they accuse the authorities of changing the course of anarchy. This is demonstrated by a sociological survey, the results of which were published by the Republic’s Institute of Marketing and Sociological Surveys (IMAS) on May 23 on the official website.
According to the results of the study, 58% of those surveyed said that the country is moving towards anarchy and censorship. 34% believe that democracy is developing in the republic.
39% of respondents said that nothing has changed in Moldova since the Action and Solidarity (PDS) party came to power in July 2021. 40% said they are implementing reforms, but little by little, 15% see reforms serious.
Of those surveyed, 39% said that the country has become freer to “breathe” with the PDS, 54% believe the opposite. 31% believe that justice has become more independent with this government, 58% think otherwise.
The survey was carried out from May 2 to 19, 1112 people over 18 years of age participated in it, the research error was 3%.
Recall that on May 21, Moldovan President Maia Sandu held rallies in Chisinau and the opposition Shor Party held rallies in Orhei, Balti and Comrat, the capital of Gagauz autonomy. In the pro-government rally they said that 80 thousand people attended, the opponents counted 60 thousand people in their actions.
Sandu and his PDS party say most citizens want a pro-Western course. Shor points out that in Moldova there are also supporters of rapprochement with Russia and those who want neutrality. The opposition demands to determine the foreign course of the republic after the results of the referendum.
