Indonesia and Iran signed a trade agreement on Tuesday and pledged to strengthen ties between the countries on the first day of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi’s visit to the archipelago.
“I hope (this agreement) will increase trade between Indonesia and Iran,” Indonesian President Joko Widodo said after a total of 10 agreements were signed between the two countries at the Bogor Palace in the capital.
According to the country’s Commerce Ministry, the trade deal will ease Indonesia’s access to the Iranian market, especially with regard to exports of vegetable oil, cocoa, coffee and tobacco.
In return, Indonesia will lower its customs tariffs on Iranian exports, including oil.
During his first official visit to the archipelago, Raisi assured that the two countries intend to increase the total value of their trade to 20 billion US dollars (18 billion euros).
